Party name assessment

The party should contact the NSW Electoral Commission about its proposed registered name and abbreviation on 1300 022 011 or email fdc@elections.nsw.gov.au

The NSW Electoral Commission does a preliminary assessment to determine whether the name meets the legislative requirements for a legally compliant party name.

The party’s name must be consistent with the party’s constitution and the name of the entity (for example, the name of the incorporated association, corporation or unincorporated entity, as applicable).

If the proposed registered name is rejected, this decision will be communicated to the secretary of the party with the reasons for rejection. The party may amend or change the name and make a new enquiry with the NSW Electoral Commission.

If the name is accepted, this decision will be communicated to the secretary of the party, noting that the approval is tentative only until the NSW Electoral Commissioner makes the decision to register the party.
