Party membership assessment

If the initial assessment is successful, a verification will be undertaken to determine whether the persons relied on by the party as members are enrolled to vote in New South Wales.

This assessment involves three steps:

  1. Declaration forms compared

The party member declaration forms will be compared against the list of members provided by the party when the application was made.

  2. Enrolment checks

Each member (successfully matched in step one) will be checked to determine if they are enrolled to vote in New South Wales.

  3. Identify members relied on by another registered party

Identify party members that are relied on by another registered party (the party member will be asked to confirm which party can rely on the person for registration).

If after this assessment, the party does not qualify to be an eligible party (because it does not have sufficient number of members it can rely on), the NSW Electoral Commissioner may refuse to register the party. At which point, the secretary of the party may lodge an amended application within 30 days of this decision.

If the party has enough members to be an eligible party, the registration process will proceed to the next stage.
