Redistribution public hearing

In November 2020, the Electoral Districts Redistribution Panel (the Panel) published its draft determination of the names and boundaries of New South Wales state electoral districts.

A public hearing will be held into the submissions and comments made on the draft determination. The Panel will be addressed at the hearing by or on behalf of those persons who, or organisations that, lodged a submission or comment, and have indicated to the Panel that they have further submissions to make.

Members of the public are welcome to observe the event in person on Friday, 30 April 2021 from 9am in the Lyceum Room, Wesley Conference Centre, 220 Pitt St, Sydney. The event will also be live streamed.

People interested in attending the public hearing or who wish to be sent the streaming link should email redistribution@elections.nsw.gov.au

“While the needs of individual electoral districts and the communities within them are considered and wherever possible taken into account, the Panel must have a whole-of-state perspective so that districts have approximately the same number of electors,” said Hon. Arthur Emmett AO QC, Chairperson of the Panel.

Following the public hearing, all feedback received since the publication of the draft determination will be considered by the Panel and a final determination will be published.

If the revised determination differs significantly from the preceding draft, further public consultation will be undertaken. If it does not differ significantly, the process moves to the final determination of electoral district names and boundaries, which will apply at the March 2023 New South Wales state general election.

Conduct of the public hearing is dependent on public health guidelines in place at the time. Any change to the above details will be published on the NSW Electoral Commission website.
