Nominations open: Kempsey, Shellharbour Ward A and Singleton

Nominations for candidates who plan to contest the NSW local council elections for Kempsey Shire Council, Shellharbour City Council - Ward A and Singleton Council will open Monday, 20 June and will close at 12 noon on Wednesday, 29 June 2022.

NSW Electoral Commissioner, John Schmidt said nomination forms are available on our website or by calling the NSW Electoral Commission’s candidate helpdesk on 1300 022 011.

“I encourage anyone interested in running in one of the upcoming local council elections to start preparing their nominations.”

“From Monday, forms can be submitted in person at the office of the local Returning Officer. Late or incomplete submissions cannot be accepted,” he said.

Mr Schmidt said the NSW Electoral Commission website contains lots of helpful information explaining how to become a candidate.

“Potential candidates can familiarise themselves with election processes and obligations by following the 'Six steps to being a candidate' available on our website.”

“This section covers political donations and electoral expenditure, registering as a candidate, how to register electoral material and more.”

Mr Schmidt also reminded potential candidates that to be nominated as a candidate for an election in a local government area or ward, you must be enrolled to vote in the local government area by 6pm on Monday, 20 June 2022.  A candidate must be nominated by a registered political party or by at least two people enrolled in the area or ward.

“I would encourage anyone who is unsure about their enrolment to check and update their details on the electoral roll.”
