1. Final election results for December 2021 elections

Amended legislation for the return of postal votes to impact the declaration of the election results

The distribution of preferences to determine the elected candidate(s) will be conducted when all returned postal vote ballot papers received up to 6pm, Friday 17 December 2021 have been included in the count.

Section 319 of the Local Government (General) Regulation 2021 provides that the closing date for the receipt of postal votes is now 6pm on the 13th day following election day, i.e. 6pm, Friday 17 December 2021. The previous deadline was 6pm on the Monday following election day.

The time and date for the conduct of the distribution of preferences in each Council area/ward will be published on the NSW Electoral Commission website in due course.

Please consider this count timeline when you are scheduling the first Council meeting of your newly elected Council.

2. Close of rolls deadline getting closer

6pm Monday 25 October deadline for close of rolls

Just a reminder that 6pm on Monday 25 October 2021 is the deadline for the close of the electoral rolls for the 4 December 2021 elections. That means no further applications can be accepted from non-resident owners of rateable land or from occupiers and ratepaying lessees after that deadline.

3. Council poll or referenda deadline approaching

12 noon Monday 25 October deadline for council polls or referenda

12 noon on Monday 25 October 2021 is the deadline for the submission of council resolutions for the conduct of polls or referenda in conjunction with the 4 December 2021 council elections. The appropriate resolution and final questions must be received by the deadline. Submissions or changes received by the NSW Electoral Commission after the deadline cannot be accepted.
