2023 NSW State election donations

Pre-election donations disclosed

All reportable political donations made or received between 1 October 2022 and 25 March 2023 (election day) were required to be disclosed to the NSW Electoral Commission within 21 days of the donation being made or received. This included donations made by political parties, candidates, groups, elected members, third-party campaigners, associated entities and members of the public.

Reportable political donations are donations of $1,000 or more, made or received in the lead-up to the 2023 NSW State election. This includes multiple donations made by the same donor to the same recipient that in aggregate are valued at $1,000 or more during the 2022-23 financial year.

All disclosed pre-election donations have been published online by the NSW Electoral Commission, as required by legislation. You can view both pre-election disclosures for the 2023 State election and other disclosures that have been lodged dating back to the 2018-19 financial year.

To support electoral integrity further, all pre-election donations disclosed are also now accessible at the link below in a different format. The data includes the donor’s name, the recipient’s name, the amount of the donation and the date. The data also includes the donor’s disclosed location by electoral district/postcode, consistent with the map data provided below.

Note: Disclosures and amendments that have been made up until 5 May 2023 are published on the Electoral Commission’s website and included in the XLSX file and data visualisation map on this page. This file will open in XLSX format.

Pre-election donations by donor location

The map below provides a data visualisation of the aggregated value of political donations made based on the location of the donor at the time of the 2023 NSW State election.

Donations are grouped according to the State electoral district in which the individual donor was enrolled or the entity/business donor office was located. The darker the colour, the greater the total value of donations made by donors located within that district.

Note: The map does not show the location of the recipient of a donation. In some cases, where we cannot map a donor’s location, for example, donations made by silent electors, or donors enrolled or registered outside of New South Wales, they are excluded from the map.
