Rates of Pay and Allowances
Pay Rates - these apply to State and Local Government elections.
Pay rates are effective 1 January 2015.

The Total Fee includes election day work, election night tasks, material collection and return, polling place set up, meal allowance and satisfactory completion of training requirements as required by the position. A mobile phone allowance is paid to Polling Place Managers, where claimed.
# Polling Place Manager fee is dependent upon the size of the polling place.
* An additional taxable cash allowance will be paid in lieu of the superannuation guarantee contribution, where the Election Official is not subsequently employed as an Office Assistant or Senior Office Assistant.

Rates shown above are the hourly rates for work up to 9 hours on any day including loadings, without the payment of overtime.
Overtime is paid for work over 9 hours (breaks excluded) on any day.
Meal allowances may be payable for overtime hours worked beyond 6.00pm.
Superannuation choice is offered, where applicable, and in the absence of compliant details the NSWEC will remit contributions to our default fund.
66.0 Cents per km (all engine sizes)
For Polling Place Managers and Deputy Polling Place Managers - Returning Officer must approve the payment of a mileage allowance for attendance at training, set up of the polling place, travel to the Returning Officer's Office to collect ballot papers and electoral material and return materials on election day.
For Senior Office Assistants - Returning Officer must approve the payment of a mileage allowance for attendance at training, travel to the Returning Officer's Office to collect and return of ballot papers and materials.
For Office Assistants - Returning Officer must approve of the payment of a mileage allowance for use of their own vehicle for work, for example, travelling to Declared Institutions.
Conditions for use of own vehicle
The mileage allowance is payable on conditions that:
- the use of own vehicle is more efficient, practical and less expensive than travel by alternative means;
- the officer has their own Third party and Comprehensive insurance coverage; and
- the damage of vehicle is not met by NSWEC.
