Voting on election day

On election day electors vote in polling places usually at local schools and halls. Often they will be the same as those used for state and federal elections.

Polling places are open from 8 am to 6 pm on election day and will be advertised before the election on this website.

Divided councils - wards

An elector can only vote at a polling place within the ward for which they are enrolled. Each council has one designated polling place where electors from any ward within that council may vote.

Undivided councils - no wards

An elector can vote at any polling place within the council area they are enrolled in.

Absentee, interstate or overseas voting

The NSWEC does not provide absentee, interstate or overseas services as the Local Government Act does not contain provisions for absentee, interstate or overseas voting.

Political party workers

Party and candidate workers will be outside most polling places with 'How to vote' cards showing you how to vote for their candidate.
