Calculation of NSW Electoral Commission Service Charge to Local Government

The NSWEC as part of the lead up to the Local Government elections to be held on 8 September 2012, has reviewed its charge out rates through an independent assessment conducted by the accounting and audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. The new recommended rates show a drop in the hourly charge by $20 to $175/hr reflecting productivity improvements. The charge represents the portion of NSWEC head office costs to be recouped. These charges will be allocated between various councils on a ‘per elector’ basis with the rate discounted for those councils where there are non-contested elections. Receipts from this charge are not retained by the NSWEC but passed back to the Treasury consolidated fund.
